2019

During this year I put into practice the idea of the art workshop as a portable space. From Colombia to Australia, a trip that has made me meditate pictorially on the live portrait, the live landscape, and the spiritual relationships that we establish in foreign spaces.

It is interesting to see how many artists specialized in landscaping and urban landscaping incorporating the human figure in their artwork. From Claude Monet to Vincent Van Gogh, to mention some of my references. This painting is a study of these pictorial elements developed by the Impressionists, although it is also a study of the line design and typical curves of the Bauhaus school.

Among the force of nature there is the architectural intervention built in carved limestone and made by Italian architects in 1938. The painting starts in the open air, then it is finished thanks to the photographic record.

The process as an artwork

For me it is important to demonstrate how you get to make a painting or drawing, working both in photographic records as well as in time-lapse processes. I believe that, as a professor of painting and drawing, it is important to demonstrate how we get to finish or move forward in the processes of two-dimensional creation.

Video clips

The interest in recording the painting process gave me the idea to make videos. Some of these time lapse records the process from the first brush strokes to the end of the artwork.

To learn the techniques of the great masters of painting it is important to study them from the realization of their pictorial artworks.
Influenced by Vincent Van Gogh’s pictorial work, for his color and technical work with the brush, I made one of the many versions he has of sunflowers, which was recorded on video.

Studying the works of art history masters with whom I have felt identified has been a great opportunity to understand the process of pictorial creation, especially the work of impressionist artists have been important
That is why Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s work is referenced since his style corresponds to spontaneity and the ability to capture movement in his scenes and his characters.
